Workshops And Courses
Custom-built for local needs
During 2000/01, as in previous years, we were invited to offer a range
of workshops on both a district and regional basis throughout the
country. This experience has confirmed that many speech and language
therapy services prefer a team approach to the management of dysfluency
in children, adolescents and adults, rather than identifying one individual
staff member for training. These custom-built courses have varied
from one to five days, depending on the level of skill aquisition
required.
These workshops could include:
- The Profile of Vulnerability - a new tool for identifying the
level of risk of persistent stammering in young children.
- Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Direct Fluency Enhancement
Strategies for children up to seven years of age.
- The new Home-Based Fluency Programme for Young Children - based
on the the principles of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, but
for families who are unable to attend clinics.
- Intensive and Non-Intensive Therapy programmes for 8-14 year
old children.
- The management of teenagers who stammer, which involves intensive
and non-intensive methods.
- Social skills training.
- The management of adults who stammer, which includes Cognitive-Behavioural
strategies, Personal Construct Therapy, Solution-focused Brief
Therapy and Fluency Enhancement.
- A workshop for managers, setting up a specialist service for
stammering.
- A follow-up session is included in the package. This could involve
case discussion, problem solving, management of difficult cases
or any other topics that the group suggests.
Costs depend on the length of the workshop required.
