The Michael Palin Centre Bike Ride
"My name is Owen Lightburnn and I am twelve years old. Last year a friend, Alan
Webdale, and I cycled 280 miles from Ullswater, Cumbria to Hokam,
Norfolk to raise money for the Michael Palin Centre".
"It took three days, I did 240 miles and Alan did 280 miles,
and we cycled through the Lake District, over the Yorkshire Dales,
across the Humber Bridge, South through Lincolnshire, to the Wash,
before turning East into Norfolk via Kings Lynn".
"Each day I did about 74 miles and it was very tough. It was
too busy for me to bike through the towns, so I was picked up by the
support car and got out the other side, but Alan biked all the way".
"The hardest part of the bike ride was going through Hawes because
it was mostly steep hills. Before we got to Hawes we came to a village
called Sedbergh where the support car broke down and this delayed
us for two hours while we waited for the breakdown truck to arrive
which took the driver (who was my mum), the navigator (who was Alan's
wife) and the smalll children home to get by granddad's car".
"Every night we slept in my uncle Ernie's campervan until we
arrived at Kings Lynn. We biked the rest of the way to Holkam where
we stayed for two nights at the house of the parents of the navigator".
"We raised £952.41 for the Michael Palin Centre".
The Michael Palin Centre would like to thank Owen and Alan for their
superb efforts in raising this money to help other youngsters who
stammer.

"I went to the fish shop and asked for a sausage and chips and didn't
stammer once."
